who is outside noise?
Michael: A college graduate with a music business degree, Michael felt that his most important lessons in school came from seeing firsthand how the drive for money, fame, and power flattens all art in its path. In reality, the people back home in Murfreesboro were always going to be making something more interesting than those in Nashville, as those artists with nothing to lose by making exactly what they feel is right typically do. He floated the idea of Outside Noise to the other three to find, highlight, and connect other creatives who shared a commitment to uncompromising self-expression.
Julia: From competitive voice to physical creations, Julia has always made the arts the center of her identity. Having always had a particular fondness for music, she found herself attracted to artists that pushed the sound, visuals, and the overall concept of their art into unexplored territories. After witnessing the unique passion and talent hidden in small creative spaces during high school and college, spreading their experimental art became a priority and a goal. Joining with her friends to create Outside Noise has allowed her to do just that, as well as connect with, celebrate, and discover new art along the way.
Carrie: Born and raised in Memphis, Carrie has proudly cultivated her own forms of expressions as well as a deep respect for resourceful, DIY creation in all mediums. This passion has led her to a wide range of experience at music festivals, bakeries, venues, ice cream trucks, parks, and studios in her communities. Now, she's narrowing her focus to writing and media production with an interest in new experimental music to further appreciate the talents of other creative artists.
Kalen: From their start in the 2010s midwest basement indie scene, to the Las Vegas punk underground, to Nashville's secret goth and industrial nightlife, Kalen has been immersed in numerous music communities and subcultures for over a decade. Exploring a diverse array of DIY scenes, Kalen feels a deep appreciation for all varieties of musical expression that can be found only if you know where to look. Their goal is to initiate more people into the weird and wonderful world of the artistic underground, with a particular fondness for metal, noise, and anything that pushes the boundaries of extreme and experimental music.
