A Flor de Piel by Montanera

A Flor de Piel by Montanera

We sprout concrete, immobile roots in the places that have poured so much into us, making a long-distance move feel as if we’re chiseling away at a critical piece of our personal foundations. To discuss the loss inherent in the changes we make, Columbian alternative pop artist Montanera penned her new record A Flor de Piel, a love letter to the traditions of her home country and to the brave new world of experimental electronica that she finds in her new home of London. Montanera’s vocals emphasize the vast chasm between contemporary alternative pop airiness and the rapid dynamic and pitch shifts of Afro-Columbian group singing, skillfully uniting both sounds under an unlikely umbrella of minimal synths and electric organs. This silky smooth sonic flavoring represents the most stable inner core of Montanera’s soul, the tiny yet indispensable portion of her being that remains constant as everything else in her life shifts wildly. Despite having its foundations blasted out from under it, this innermost self still finds means of expression, creating art with complete individuality.
