ANTROPOSCEN by Jarzmo

All cultures mythologize the end of the world. Of course the fear of death, not just on a personal scale but a global scale, would inspire stories and speculation about how exactly and horrifically the shit will hit the fan. Some of these fears are explored on the prog-folk album ANTROPOSCEN by Jarzmo. This haunting release features traditional instrumentation like the Nyckelharpa and the Bereban, embued with heavy distortion and in arrangements that sound like doom metal riffs, lending these songs an appropriate sense of dread and urgency for the end that Jarzmo warns is neigh. Thunderous percussion threatens to crumble all in its wake, as chanty vocals usher in the apocalypse to its brutal commencement. Even in the face of the imminent heat death of the universe, the polka band plays on, a glimmer of camaraderie in the march towards the inevitable end.
