From the Apocalypse… by Yes Plant
As almost every nuclear-armed country faces a crisis of competent leadership, anxiety over an outrageously destructive and ultimately pointless conflict has hit a generational high. To exhaust some of this pent-up worry, multigenre experimentalists Yes Plant give us From the Apocalypse…, a tribute to the heartless, careless world leaders who could end the world at any moment for any reason. Using a hip hop songwriting style to deliver conversational lyrics from various perspectives, Yes Plant draws the main line between the decision-makers and the effect-takers as one of apathy, where nihilistic, misanthropic leaders create a desperate, hopeless population. Simultaneously, a two-headed synth pop production sensibility deepens this divide, giving the words of the elites the lighthearted feel of an advertisement while the surrounding world bathes in dark, atmospheric synth pads. All too late, the people glimpse the world political machinery in its gargantuan, unstoppable reality, as accountable to human needs as a hurricane and as irrational as an earthquake. With nothing to gain by fighting back, we grieve.
