God is Luck by Bad History Month
Sitting with an album sometimes gives you a sense that you personally know the artist, and in no place is that more true than with God Is Luck by Bad History Month. Delving into the speaker’s memories as an awkward, sensitive child to their most tender romantic moments later in life, this album leaves no stone unturned in its autobiographical approach. Musically, this record fuses Modest-Mouse-style layered vocals with some post rock sensibilities, all while avoiding the grandiosity of crescendocore. Each track walks through the real, sequential events of a core memory, and the pleasant, swirling smoke of poetic imagery wafts off of this linear storytelling. Even if you as a listener don’t resonate with the specific stories, the record affords you plenty of instrumental space to delve into your own innermost memories, ones that shape your character and decision-making but may seem arbitrary or unimportant to someone outside yourself. - Michael
