Heisei Babilonia by Post Millenial Dreams
When we experience something incredible from within the confines of our headphones, our disconnection with the outside world deepens, as we feel unable to connect with those around us in that moment. For Chilean electronic artist Post Millenial Dreams, this disconnection inspired their new record Heisei Babilonia, a sound collage project that brings in some of that external world as we peer out at it from behind the protective barrier of our headphones. Sounds fly at us from all directions here, some seemingly from outside the track entirely, simulating the mismatch of our controlled audio environment and the chaotic world that we share with others. Each sound gets treated to its own acoustic space, resulting in a mosaic that blends together into the type of strange image that we experience with our senses at all times. For anyone who’s ever felt alone in a crowded room, overwhelmed by the confluence of ambient conversations and an incessant internal dialogue, Heisei Babilonia provides a sort of comfort, placing a hand on our shoulder and reminding us that our world overwhelms everyone sometimes.
