Hip Hop Roundup Week of 12/1
It’s been a while, but this week had some hip hop releases that got us talking. Here’s the long-awaited continuation of our hip-hop roundup!
Galaksi Rima Sakti by Krowbar
First up, Indonesian rapper Krowbar released their new record Galaksi Rima Sakti, a delightful mix of club dance, old school hip hop, and Southeast Asian dance traditions. Thanks to the endlessly energetic vocal performances throughout, I even found myself entertained by the skits that I couldn’t understand a single word of.
Nature of my Nature by Sunmundi
Next up, Sunmundi’s new EP Nature of my Nature focuses on distorted ambient soundscapes, frequently forgoing percussion altogether to leave the vocals suspended before a backdrop of warm, fuzzy noise. It’s also worth noting that the lyrics contain the phrase “outside noises.”
from zay with love* by zayok
Finally, from zay with love* by zayok introduces a hyperpop element to our list, using that genre’s signature buzzy synths and blown out percussion to advance their autotune-sung hip hop sound.
