Howl by Daisy Rickman

Howl by Daisy Rickman

An obsession with light drives Celtic folk artist Daisy Rickman to create their new record Howl, a noble attempt to create music that harmonizes with the sun itself. Identifying the sun and other stars as the givers of life, Daisy Rickman fantasizes about uniting with these life sources, using their music as a stepladder to get them ever closer to the force that animates themselves and all of their ancestors. Each layer of instrumentation, from the wavering sitar to the delicate orchestral strings to the traditional guitars, acts as another step on this ladder. Beginning this brave climb, Rickman enters the scene with a steady, deep voice reminiscent of Nico, outlining poetic scenes that make intuitive sense to us and our human nature. Having such a distinct goal in mind allows Rickman to assemble a sound of remarkable depth without collaborators, with their desire for connection to consciousness at large serving as collaboration enough for a rich, diverse, fleshed-out album.
