INSIDE NOISE: Mulholland’s Dinner and Wine by Declan McKenna
Electronic indie darling of the late 2010s Declan McKenna just put out Mulholland’s Dinner and Wine, the final four track single in anticipation for his album coming out later next month. The project mainly features energetic british indie rock entwined seamlessly with densely layered overtones that let the warm lazy attitude of LA shine through the fuzz. With a mature yet tongue-in-cheek writing style McKenna explores conceptual stories as well as more frustrated and introspective vignettes, blanketed by soft ambience and some fun squidgy synth ornamentation. McKenna has always been a little more eclectic with his production than others in this niche, and this project is no exception with funkier beats and a slightly more experimental approach than you may expect. I’d say if you’re an indie fan it’ll definitely be worth checking out the album in a couple weeks if just to find out the full scope of its pacing and storytelling!
