INSIDE NOISE: She Reaches out to She Reaches out to She by Chelsea Wolfe
Taking vocal cues from Björk and assembling a sonic mosaic including cavernous percussion, distorted synths, and acoustic piano, She Reaches out to She Reaches out to She by Chelsea Wolfe establishes a unique identity within the alternative scene. Agonizing over the decision of whether to cut toxic ties in her life, Wolfe externalizes her strife through a dramatic sound that satisfies us in ways that other dark alternative music often leaves us disappointed. After establishing an expansive acoustic space through echoey, diverse percussion and hyperactive synths, Wolfe takes the rare next step and fills the space to the brim with cathartic digital noise and incalculable numbers of analog layers. We feel overwhelmed alongside Wolfe as she endures relief after stress after relief, struggling her way out of a maze of trauma and grief that hides within its walls some fleeting moments of joy that fuel her with the will to continue. 7/10.
