We’re a long way away from the days of riot grrrl having its own instantly identifiable sound, but Længe Leve De Vrede by Situationsfornærmelse utilizes an impressive array of novel techniques to express that familiar feminist rage. Above all else, this album prioritizes lyrical themes of neglect, from women’s desires going underemphasized to violence against women getting ignored, but despite this sometimes grim subject matter the band never shies away from the use of biting satire and snarky humor. Conforming musically to the contours of the varied lyrical delivery, the band whips through Primus-style groove metal verses, Slayer-esque thrash metal solos, 70s punk gang vocals, post hardcore guitar dissonance, and hardcore percussive choruses. Through taking such an eclectic approach, each track gains a unique identity fitting for the subject and attitude, making every individual moment on the record instantly recognizable. However, a unifying ethic of righteous outrage spans across all sounds and dispositions that display across the record, leaving us with a sense of the all-encompassing nature of the speaker’s disempowerment.
