Le Sacre Du Soleil Invaincu by Neptunian Maximalism

We’re given a front row seat to the creative process on Le Sacre Du Soleil Invaincu by Neptunian Maximalism, a psychedelic epic that uses the form of Indian classical music to construct something unquestionably postmodern. Starting from traditional, acoustic Ragas, Neptunian Maximalism continuously ratchets up the intensity until their arrival at extreme sludge metal, converting the long, dramatic drones of Raga into imposing walls of distorted guitar. From here, we take an unexpected turn into krautrock, maintaining the heavy, consistent rhythm section we picked up in the sludge phase while shattering that dependable wall of guitars, clearing our view for the distant, improvised melodies that gracefully dance on the horizon. However, the band refuses to serve us this narrative on a silver platter, instead employing nonlinear storytelling across the album by gently swaying between these three styles. We therefore understand the creative process as a dialectic, an experience of every extreme in the natural creation of a perfect final result, allowing us to understand our own twisted paths as a key ingredient to everlasting stability.
