Limestone by Mawaru.

Limestone by Mawaru.

Every day, people celebrate achievements meant to appease a paranoia surrounding their own existence, climbing mountains, founding companies, starting families, and breaking records to prove to themselves and the world that they exist independently of all else. When this innate need for recognition goes unanswered, the result sounds something like Limestone by Mawaru., a Brazilian emogaze album that wallows in suffocating loneliness. Thick layers of intensely processed guitar construct gargantuan spaces packed to the gills with shimmering detail, crowding out the desperate wailing of a vocalist begging for an echo in this anechoic world. Sooner or later, everyone striving for individual recognition flings themselves headlong into a brick wall of disappointment, finding themselves subjected to outside forces once again as their moment of glory fades. Accordingly, Mawaru leaves us on a sublime crescendo of self-denial, a poignant recognition that, since the drive towards individual actualization will always fall short, humility must prevail to ensure a peaceful, joyful life.
