Metal Roundup Week of 12/8
Our metal roundup finds some violence every week, but this week seems especially dark, raw, and unapologetically heavy.
Katabasis by Windthrow
First up, Katabasis by Windthrow brings a tasteful amount of heavy metal riffing and soloing into their scandinavian black metal sound. At the cross point of dark heft and flamboyant flashiness, this record carves out a new path within extreme metal.
Vold by Nyrst
Keeping things in Scandinavia for the next one, Vold by Nyrst harnesses the raw power of Iceland’s volcanic landscape to create a driving, rhythmic black metal sound that stands out in the scene.
Bestial Extermination by Blood Serpent
Dialing things back conceptually, Bestial Extermination by Blood Serpent gives us a taste of the pure chaos of the Vietnamese death metal scene. A punk ethos and messy production style really highlight the all-out DIY spirit of this band.
Morbid Origin by Inculter
Finally, back to Scandinavia we go for our final record of the week, Morbid Origin by Inculter. Carrying the torch of classic death and thrash metal, evil riff after evil riff cements this record’s place among the fast metal cannon.
