Metal Roundup Week of 9/29
We may have gone a little dark on the metal roundup this week, but what else were we supposed to do to kick off October?
Beyond the Reach of Light by Field of Fear
First up, we’re already bending the definition of metal a bit by including Beyond the Reach of Light by Field of Fear, seeing that this one mostly reads as intense, pulsating noise. However, the record justifies its appearance here through its crippling heaviness and its maintenance of a groove even in the most unlikely of circumstances.
Nous n'avons que le choix du noir by Tenebrisme
Next up, Nous n’avons que le choix du noir by Tenebrisme gives us some atmospheric black metal that explores some brighter emotions while still retaining an overall deep, dark edge.
Apathy Chasm by Tides of Sulfur
Staying in Europe for the next one, Apathy Chasm by Tides of Sulfur combines sludge riffs with a black metal tone to give us one of the heaviest performances we’ve heard all year.
Dissimulant by Ruin Lust
Finally, we’ve got a band with a drummer that will blow your mind in the form of Ruin Lust. Their new record Dissimulant raises the tempo of our roundup a bit with chaotic guitar leads that careen head-first into an impenetrable wall of percussion.
