Nothing, Interesting by Library Card
From outside the church, horrifying, noxious fumes seep in through every orifice, obscuring the view of the altar as the congregants pretend through burning eyes and lungs that nothing has gone wrong. Outside the church doors, Dutch post punk band Library Card sings the songs on Nothing, Interesting, an EP that marvels at all the horrors that people step over and around while going about their daily lives. Dynamic vocals relay relatable lyrics, falling in and out of the pocket with warm yet angular guitar leads, implicating us in an intolerable sort of collective cruelty. From annoying interpersonal microaggressions to crimes that glow dully from the front page news, we encounter systemic, social, and personal problems in our everyday lives that we feel powerless to stop, all while we’re cursed with the mentality that the burden of change falls on each of us all the time. For Library Card, this album serves as an outlet to bring others to the same realization; for us, the least we could do is stop for a moment when we witness social failures bubbling to the surface in our path.
