Out of Body by Geo
Densely layered angular riffs strike and bounce off of each other curiously, creating seemingly random interactions that speak to the intense forethought of the songwriter. Such sounds define a distinct form of post punk whose history passes through legendary bands like Minutemen and Gang of Four, continuing right down to a new band out of The Netherlands called Geo and their new record Out of Body. These playful tracks inspire janky and disjointed movement, with crunchy chords, wailing feedback, and discordant counterpoints fighting a tight rhythm section for control over our bodies. As dancey post punk reaches playlists all over the internet, especially in the goth, dark wave, and new wave directions, a stranger and decidedly anti-atmospheric take on these ideas becomes a daring artistic statement. If post punk represents the zeitgeist, there ought to be room in that spirit of the times for the absurdist whimsy of Geo.
