Plan 75 by The Orchestra (For Now)
Costs rise, wages fall, the drugs get cheaper yet more dangerous, the houses get costlier yet more flammable, and every day the cliff of insecurity inches closer to us, swallowing up those we love on its relentless path. London post rockers The Orchestra (For Now) pick up on this pandemic of anxiety on their explosive debut EP Plan 75, a dense, orchestral work with an extreme emotional range. At lower sections, the band’s relentless noodlings weave together to create a dense yet subtle sonic web, accompanied by theatrical vocals that run out ahead of each emotional transition. Once the instrumentals catch up, they increasingly focus on unified melodic riffs, coalescing the ensemble’s diverse, powerful armada of instrumentation onto a steadily shrinking target. This structure mirrors our thought patterns as we acquire socially-induced neurosis, starting from the myriad of tiny pieces of evidence we see around us of our precarious existence and solidifying into an all-consuming stream of intrusive, catastrophic thoughts. This neurosis will expand and spread no matter what, the question is, where will we direct the resulting anger?
