Seeking Darkness by Huremic
Fans of Parannoul may be excited to hear that this beloved anonymous indie artist has a new record out, but its sound may not be what you expect. Seeking Darkness by Huremic, a separate alias designated for more experimental releases that don’t gel perfectly with the Parannoul brand, takes the most abstract, post-rock-influenced moments of a record like To See the Next Part of the Dream and expands them to the extreme. Discarding the charming choruses and grunge-like dynamic dichotomies of previous releases in favor of a more fluid, gradual approach, this record obsessively cycles through each devastating, industrial riff for minutes on end, dialing up the intensity over time until no emotional potential energy remains. Constructing one smoothly flowing narrative that speaks in pure intensity, the record unlocks a deeper understanding of the same emotions we see present in other Parannoul projects, that classic aimless nostalgia and nihilistic despair appearing in their rawest, most intuitively empathetic forms, completely devoid of the pop music language previously used to pretty them up and left bare in all their frightening reality.
