Snow as a Metaphor for Death by SENTRIES
Even with all the entertainment and spectacle we could ever desire, the gnawing lack inside our souls eats us from the inside out. Noise rock often personifies this emptiness, and Snow as a Metaphor for Death by SENTRIES fits into this niche. Catharsis bursts forth from every seam on this record, gushing out through the vocalist’s expressive moans and shouts that struggle against the surrounding cacophony, through hyperactive drumming that rips a hole in the rest of the composition, through mutilated guitar sounds that occasionally offer some warmth in this otherwise frigid environment. Knowing that this record emerged from the mind of a single musician really helps drive its message home; even if we all see the writing on the wall, we fail to read it aloud to others in a way that could help guide us all to self-actualization. However, after Snow as a Metaphor for Death’s emotional onslaught, we feel closer to understanding this bottomless pit in ourselves, closer to one day finding an exit along this long and featureless wall.
