Socha by Lihla
The days bring disorder, decay, decline. Time laughs at our frenzied dance to reassemble the pieces, to return to the home we remember. We shiver to our core, but the snow only just started falling. With an incredibly delicate hand, ambient artist Lihla draws us out into the subtle storm of their anxiety on their new record Socha. However, as much as this album focuses on the unstoppable discomfort that comes along with the passage of time, Lihla offers us one comfort to keep our hearts from freezing to the core: love. Addressing their lover with the gentlest of spoken and sung vocals, Lihla describes their lover as creating an environment for them that runs counter to everything we hear on this album. Where Socha gives us distant piano trills and incessant, unsettling synths, Lihla’s lover brings warmth, comfort, and escape. Though love fails to address the sources of anxiety in Lihla’s life, the cozy embrace makes tending to these intrusive thoughts significantly more bearable, creating a spiritual home to return to in a world that won’t stop moving.
