Sophia Oscillations by Mission to the Sun

Sophia Oscillations by Mission to the Sun

Parties go on even with nothing to celebrate, and clubs become less of an escape and more a reflection of the chaotic, decaying world outside. To Detroit’s Mission to the Sun, this dystopia has already arrived, rendering much of today’s dance music obsolete. Instead, the band offers us a new soundtrack to our nights out, Sophia Oscillations, a record that sounds like your tenth hour at Berghain as you’re coming out of a bad trip. Mission to the Sun retains the all-important pulse that invites us to dance, but distressingly lucid vocal samples and an abundance of non-rhythmic noise across all frequencies force us to watch ourselves as we move around the dance floor. Certainly not for the faint of heart and probably not for your next party (unless you have some really cool friends), Sophia Oscillations moreso describes the dance-like motions of the outside world, teetering on the edge of complete collapse in pursuit of profit, or some other motive that makes equally little sense.
