Sternkunst by Фламандская Школа (Flemish School)
An emotional tidal wave crashes through levees and dams, pulverizing all defenses on its way to the center of your heart. This wave arrives in the form of Sternkunst by Flemish School, a Russian experimental rock album that struggles to make sense of our deadly world. Musically, this record achieves a similar aesthetic and emotional fervor that we saw with You Won’t Get What You Want, and Flemish School also adds in a touch of gothic post-punk sentiment which meshes incredibly well with their intensely bassy, rhythmic sound. Wringing out each idea to the maximum, Flemish School builds each rhythmic pattern into a full musical movement, resulting in these devastatingly heavy riffs that propel the esoteric, depressive lyrics forward. Staring down death in a society with no respect for life, Sternkunst reveals to us the depths of systemic and spiritual distrust, clawing desperately at thin air to find a meaning to a death that gets cheaper by the day.
