Terzo by il sogno del marinaio

Sometimes you’ll just be minding your own business and suddenly you wonder, “what’s Minutemen bassist and lifelong musical explorer Mike Watt doing these days?” As it turns out, his band Il Sogno del Marinaio just released their third album Terzo, a jazzy, experimental rock album fueled by the poetry of Walt Whitman. This optimistic record touches on themes of universality and immortality, enjoying the chemistry of its three musicians and encouraging us to find similar egalitarian partnerships in our own lives. Drums, bass, and guitar give and take evenly, allowing each element to shine independently all while assembling a whole that overcomes the typical jam band tendency towards long-winded solos. Through hazy harmonic territory and serious melodic risks, the band still comes out flying in unbroken formation, showing us a daring and rewarding path to collective creativity.
