Un manual de signos y sintomas by Vientos Moderados del Este
Taking the dark, noisy, dissonant world of contemporary post rock and injecting a healthy dose of progressive rock extravagance, Un manual de signos y sintomas by Vientos Moderados del Este uses its extensive guitar solos and varied songwriting in the service of intense, abrasive emotional themes. A core sense of unease animates the record, radiating out to touch on points as abstract as existential dread and as concrete as professional burnout, with each track gaining its own lyrical, thematic, and aesthetic identity to tackle each tendril of this essential energy. As such, each song oscillates wildly between progressive noise rock and straightforward jazz rock, between metallic solos and spidery anti melodies, all underpinned by a menacing rhythm section that maintains a motorik post punk order among all this chaotic variation. Despite their best efforts, the band never diagnoses the root cause of all this unease, but such an unashamedly flamboyant retelling gives us space to take these vague inklings extremely seriously, externalizing our own angst into beautiful, shimmery displays of creativity against all odds.
