Universal Unit Crime by Fall Shock
The idea that music has the immense power to guide someone through the grief cycle is not a new one, but this power shows itself over again as artists utilize music to process the most difficult moments of their lives. Universal Unit Crime by Fall Shock is a stellar example, offering true catharsis in the form of cold and viscous synthpop tackling a slew of “crimes” as defined by the artist. This new wave approach to anger explores isolation, exploitation & the social media rat race, broken trust, and resentment toward the sense of apathy we must adopt to survive this world.
The project is gorgeously produced with a broad soundscape that washes over the listener. Plucky synths and smooth dreamy guitar riffs enter a symbiotic call and response, the rigidity of one serving the fluidity of the other. The simplicity of these riffs further emphasize the detailed production, as each crafted sound offers a different form of imagery that creatively serve the crimes Fall Shock examines. Subtle, minimal verses build into thrashy choruses that leave the listener no choice but to dance out their anger. Fall Shock has hit an undeniable creative sweet spot with Universal Unit Crime, a project that is highly recommended listening especially if you need some good goth shit to get into.
