You Could Do It Tonight by Couch Slut
Living in a giant, dense city like New York exposes you to both the best and the worst of what people are capable of, and the negative end of this spectrum has always preoccupied the city’s heavy music scene. Continuing in this tradition, New York’s Couch Slut use their new record You Could Do It Tonight to give hardcore punk a much-needed, no-wave-flavored kick in the ass. Misanthropy drips off the blade of metallic riffs, explosive percussion, and powerful vocals, sending us on this expedition with Couch Slut to survey the damage wrought by the wildest and unholiest of desires. All the while, Couch Slut’s eerily conversational and deadpan lyrics suck out any remaining air in the room, forcing us to suffocate in our own discomfort. When we finally come up for air, we start noticing all the moral depravity that we’ve always witnessed and ignored, having been brought face-to-face with the blinding flames of antisocial evil.
