Aphorisms by Graham Lambkin
Anyone who’s endured a long-distance move knows the loneliness, melancholy, and anticipation that come along with this period in life. Graham Lambkin, a now London-based experimental artist, knows this feeling well, as he just recently returned to the UK after a two decade stint in New York. His new record Aphorisms consists of sparse sound collages which reveal the suffocating silence Lambkin finds himself in, encouraging him to fixate upon the most miniscule of household sounds. Returning to a place after so long yields an environment that feels uncannily familiar yet extremely uncomfortable, especially when examining a rapidly evolving society like England. As a result, Lambkin retreats into his personal space, inviting us to watch as he paces around the room and plays around on some instruments, desperately seeking an escape from the disorienting outside world.
