Lucid Anarchy by Pyur

Our bodies, surroundings, families, goals, memories, and dispositions all change over time, yet we generally collect these free-flowing experiences under the umbrella of the self. No matter how much we change, we’re tied to some sort of subconscious social security number from the cradle to the grave, an inner identity which ought to slowly unfold and enter the outer world over time. Developing this idea through glitchy, noisy electronica, Pyur’s new record Lucid Anarchy releases its sonic energy in fits and spurts, giving us the sensation that something inside the music desperately yearns for freedom. In the beginning, warm, soothing tones that symbolize our truest, innermost selves drip into the track as the outer consciousness restricts their flow. As the album develops, however, a greater portion of these sounds emerge, showing us the end result of human development where the consciousness has learned to harmonize the subconscious and the expectations imposed by the outside world. As we continue to grow and develop throughout life, we can reference art like this to remind ourselves that we may never fully reconcile our inner and outer selves, but all of our progress towards doing so will bring us closer to comfort and security.
