Returning with their second release is off-kilter folk pop duo @ with the new EP Are You There God? It’s Me, @. Described as a side quest in electronic music, the project features primarily synthesized instruments with a few grounding traditional elements like bass and vocals. Folklike percussion and overall song structure give the project a distinct voice and a sense of trajectory, while choral-inspired harmonies layer over attention grabbing guitars and synth drones. Every element in the arrangement is interesting, but none of them clash or compete with each other, remaining very cohesive and calm while exploring texture and complexity as @ considers spirituality and experimental creativity. @ shows a huge display of variety with Are You There God? It’s Me, @ and I’m excited to give this a few more listens as it’s surprisingly dense for such a short and soft-sounding project!
