A Happy Party Where No One Ever Dies Again by Culpable
Maybe I’m just still in a punk rock mood from Muddy Roots, but A Happy Party Where No One Ever Dies Again by Culpable really did something for me this week. Much of the great skramz or skramz-adjacent music we’ve seen this year expresses a general malaise that feels generally relatable, but Culpable laser-focuses on an extremely specific feeling of disgust toward others. With the exception of their love interest, whom Culpable holds up as the sole thing worth living for, all others around them fail to justify their existences beyond the bags of flesh that encase them, contributing nothing to the world but waste. This record really animates the most misanthropic elements in anyone with its electrically energetic hardcore sound, jumpy bass lines, and harsh vocals. If you need a vacation from your social obligation to respectfully coexist with yuppie human filth, you know where to turn.
