Acid Future by Lolica Tonica

I don’t know how it is where you’re from, but in the wintertime here we get a lot of “false springs”; a string of unseasonably warm days give us a taste of what awaits us on the other side of March. During these times and especially once the cold weather returns, I especially find myself yearning for summer. Perfectly capturing this sense of anticipation is Lolica Tonica with a short but sweet new project Acid Future. Bright and dripping with personality, the project is truly a celebration of a ton of different dance genres. Funky soul/pop with crunchy electronic breakdowns, fun and sexy 90s-ish house with a techno influence, and a vaporwave-adjacent track with breakbeats all play beautifully together in a way I wasn’t expecting to work so goddamn well! It’s all the best parts of staying out late to dance and driving with the windows down.

What sets Acid Future apart is being able to maintain the hypnotic rhythms of trance and house while exploring different influences and experimental layers that make each track stand out and inspire deeper listening. Lolica Tonica truly uses each bar as an opportunity to try something new and further develop the sound, leading Acid Future to rule my “Recently Played” for the time being.
