DANCE ROUNDUP Week of 9/15

Here’s a look at some of the best underground dance records from the week!

Orlando by Ciel

If you’re in the market for some four-on-the-floor dependable dance music this week, I recommend Orlando by Ciel. This record features razor-sharp percussion that makes the groove effortlessly easy to follow.

Balandean by DJ Daiki and Hanuna

Incorporating elements from its local traditions in Peru, Balandean by DJ Daiki and Hanuna props up a chaotic facade with an intricate lattice of repeated, rhythmic sampling and highly layered compound percussion sounds.

The Acid Arcana by Global Goon

Moving on, you know we couldn’t go just one more second without bringing some acid house into the picture, and this time the blotter paper comes soaked in The Acid Arcana by Global Goon. Despite its deep roots in the acid scene that bring an intense low end, this record never shies away from a fun melody either, and the energy runs at a fever pitch throughout.

The Alchemist by Stasys

Lastly, for a more conceptual record that extends a bit beyond the confines of the dance space, The Alchemist by Stasys exhibits progression that leads the record through a story arc. Whereas other dance albums create a moment that lasts forever, The Alchemist turns the club into a hero’s journey.
