METAL ROUNDUP Week of 9/15
Here’s our roundup of the best underground metal records that came out this week!
Worst Case Scenario by Altarage
First, we’re covering a band that doesn’t let their oppressive heaviness crush their crystal clear tone. Worst Case Scenario, the new record from Altarage, combines elements of doom and death metal to give us a low and slow vibe that isn’t afraid of some neck-breaking lead lines.
Імперія бидла by Obrij
Moving on to a band that’s just as brutal but in a completely different way, Ukraine-based Obrij’s new record Імперія бидла brings together crust punk energy and a blackened sound. Not to mention the drumming we hear here, which sounds like it’s going to jump out of the speaker and kick your ass.
Petrol by Tar Pond
On the other hand, Petrol by Tar Pond garnishes its glacial sludge riffs with blues vocals, a pairing which elevates this album significantly. Backing up for a second, you can start to see the similarities between these two slow, dissonant, heartbreaking genres, which makes Tar Pond’s cinematic work here all the more compelling.
Desde bajo tierra by Vortize
At first glance, the album art and overall aesthetic of Desde bajo tierra by Vortize looks laughably badass, and you accordingly expect a rigid, humorless heavy metal record. However, the band continually exceeds expectations by inviting in these latin dance influences that annihilate any air of pretension surrounding this record.
