Destroyer by Justin Walter

Destroyer by Justin Walter

Electronic musical artists make a mad dash for the experimental horizon, frantically clutching at the far reaches of creativity, only to find that technology has moved the pot of gold ever further down the rainbow. Though Justin Walter maintains all the same technical chops as these people who are continually swinging for the fences, Walter chooses instead to create a miniature landscape, tending to each minute detail to bring the brightest luster out of the dimmest materials. Using a very rudimentary set of instruments such as an EVI (Electronic Valve Instrument) and a pump organ, Walter performs a set of miniature symphonies with shocking emotional range and aesthetic perfection. These sounds may seem harsh or primitive on their own, but Walter’s hands sculpt these rough edges into a confined soundscape that nevertheless feels effortlessly easy to get lost in.
