鬼之冥想 Ghost Meditation by 大鬼眾 Ghostmass
We inherently grasp this idea that people can be born into the wrong generation or location, that someone’s personality, self-conception, and strengths would more naturally fit in somewhere inaccessible, but what if some people genuinely fit in nowhere? 大鬼眾 Ghostmass investigates these cosmic outsiders on 鬼之冥想 Ghost Meditation, a reflection on discomfort rooted in sounds of harsh noise and drone metal. Grating guitar feedback, power electronics, and distorted vocals form the backdrop for anguished throat singing, presenting us with a tangible texture of friction that we feel when we know we don’t belong. Though the album never reaches a resolution, later portions slip into a slightly more structured, doom-metal-inspired sound that shows our subject exhibiting some mastery over the noise, organizing it but never eliminating it. When we accept the constant presence of this existential discomfort, we gain access to a new plane of peace and prosperity, potentially even giving us the confidence to find other lost, lonesome souls out of place in all space and time.
