High Tide by Able Noise
Two highly neurotic friends often struggle to moderate one another, sharing their empathy in invaluable ways while ultimately agitating the vigorously churning anxiety between them. Such a relationship plays out on High Tide by Able Noise, a piece of enhanced improvisation that captures the dynamic presence of this relationship while still achieving all the detail-orientedness that separates standout post rock records from the rest. Independently solemn, contemplative guitar tracks outline difficult arpeggios, layering atop one another to create a series of warm, gently swaying, yet decidedly off-putting environments. At points of particular tension, bass, drums, and strings enter to whip the ensemble into a frenzy, injecting a nervous energy that sends the album careening into catharsis. In these moments of chaos, we see the delicate equilibrium that these two companions hold themselves within, only barely locking one another in orbit until an external calamity sends one shooting off course. However, this catharsis always leads to a new plateau of tense empathy, assuring us that this bond will always leave our two embattled friends better off.
