Isolat by Lime68k

Isolat by Lime68k

All music theory is rooted in the philosophies of math. But in the world of Spectral Music, composers take the mathematical approach to the extreme, curating acoustic signals based on computationally generated sonographs to manipulate not just the sounds but the very foundation on which the music is built. For example, the new record Isolat by Lime68k out on computer music label Miniature Recs uses this algorithmic approach to create electronic arrangements that are incredibly complex and delicately balanced. The warmth of human touch and our charming capacity for error is all but removed, leading to a mechanical sound that is cold and impersonal, completely unbound from the narrative and emotion that defines other music genres. Each short composition in this 5-track release is limited to 1 minute in length, but there is a sense that these unfolding symmetrical formulae continue on into infinity, even after the recording stops. With a noise like gears turning, the topography of the technology is revealed through these sonic vignettes, laying bare the visceral inner workings of digital signal processing.
