Perceptible to Everyone by Eyes of the Amaryllis
We see the everyday experiences of our lives as unworthy of recording, as evidenced by our timelines drowning in images of distant acquaintances’ intercontinental vacations. Ambient group Eyes of the Amaryllis disagrees, placing their warm instrumentals delicately underneath the sounds of a regular day in a hospital, at a park, and at other places that don’t exactly inspire us to take our cameras out. Though this record calls upon a wide variety of sounds, including an assortment of field recordings, the entire project snuggles together under a blanket of warmth, casting everything in this dusty orange glow. At times, this record pulls on the same heartstrings that Duster would, using meditative guitar arpeggios and an underlying instrumental hum to tease out the magic in the field recordings. What others describe as boring gets recontextualized by Eyes of the Amaryllis as cozy, enabling some of the most simple and sustainable joys that life has to offer. -Michael
