WorldWorldWorldWorldWorld by sassya-

The 90s post hardcore revival continues with WorldWorldWorldWorldWorld by sassya-, an album that recalls early emo and metal influences on the scene and deepens them further with contemporary styles and production. More mellow verses call to mind that classic Midwest emo sound, employing jazz chords, twinkly riffs, and strained vocals to establish a confessional, introspective attitude. Dialing up the intensity, each chorus chooses its influences from a diverse pool of metal and punk styles, employing wailing guitars from noise rock, overwhelming tremolo from black metal, and tight riffing from metalcore, all of which pairs with increasingly unhinged vocal delivery to lift us to catharsis. In either its toned-down or keyed-up variants, the album maintains a bright yet heavy feel, providing urgently-needed spiritual escapism that gives us glimpses of euphoria while acknowledging our deeply chaotic surroundings. As vocals fray and guitars roar, we paradoxically answer our exhaustion by desperately jumping towards the above, refusing to lay our heads down and give in despite a world that wants us to flounder.
