Fester by Legss
Have you ever listened to a song with a particularly tense or uncomfortable section and wondered what would happen if the band doubled down on the discomfort indefinitely? London-based post-rock act Legss writes songs that build to nothing, locking the listener into an anxious spiral. Fester, the band’s new EP, tells the story of early adulthood, a time to critically examine one’s wildest dreams for their feasibility and their desirability. Our lust for fame, power, and recognition slams head-on into a growing disdain for hustle culture, but at the end of the day, you’re still left needing to explain to your relatives at Christmas why you’re living in a shithole at age 25. Where each phrase should end in their music, Legss throws in an unexpected and unsettling side-step into an even more agitating anti-harmony. At each point in life in which we are faced with a significant decision, we somehow leave something to be desired, either through regret or downright avoidance.
