Mwg Drwg by Obey Cobra
Where stunning mountains once stood undisturbed, grotesque gashes now mutilate the landscape. Where forests once provided shelter to thousands of plants and animals, vast acres of pavement soak up an ever-hotter sun. To Welsh rock experimentalists Obey Cobra on their new record Mwg Drwg, humans have no identifiable purpose on earth but to annihilate harmony, to degrade the perfect order of nature into an industrial planet-killing machine. Lo-fi production and intensely crowded bass frequencies add a deep crunch to most of the record, inverting rock conventions and allowing the bass and drums to set the aesthetic, melodic, and rhythmic direction. Upon this swampy foundation, energetic punk vocals, catchy grunge riffs, and distant feedback congeal into a filthy human abomination, symbolizing our essence as something alien and hostile. Just as screws will fasten boards and cats will chase mice, people will wreak environmental havoc, and our understanding of a moral human existence must start with that underlying assumption.
