The God Phone by Lunch Money Life

I’m not sure what they’re putting in the water in London these days, but we desperately need some of it over here. Yet another fantastic experimental band from London, Lunch Money Life just hit us with 40 minutes of genreless bangers with their new record The God Phone. Noise, hip hop, psychedelia, punk, blues, jazz, it’s all here. This band isn’t afraid to introduce any sound or style to accomplish their mission, and this bold break from the shackles of category ought to be respected. Throughout the record, Lunch Money Life lays out a loose narrative of a society that discovers a scientifically proven method of communicating with God, only to later find out that they’ve been talking with Satan this whole time. At times funny, absurd, and euphoric, The God Phone celebrates the silliness of organized religion by pointing out the perpetual disappointment that comes along with having an extremely specific image of a deity.
