The Ocean Pours In by Partholón
There is a period of time on the cusp of prehistory where legend and reality blur. Myths from this era abound of kings turned gods, gods turned animal, animal turned monster. From our modern perspective, it’s tempting to discard these fables as meaningless; but these half-true chronicles are like crumbling artifacts, carefully and lovingly preserved through generations, our only remaining connection to the earliest stages of humanity. And it is from these ancient roots that Irish post-metal group Partholón channel their new release The Ocean Pours In, creating a bridge between the worlds of supernal beauty and primordial intensity. Intricately constructed riffs devolve into thunderous sludgy chugging as the band effortlessly weaves captivating tales tinged by local folklore. And for those who know that such stories were often thinly veiled warnings, Daniel Howard’s emotive growling vocals strike the listener with earth-shaking fear of bestial demise. Every track on this record stands as a menhir, fully realized expressions each exploring unique aspects of a heavy sonic landscape, together forming a megalithic construction that invokes feelings of awe and reverence through the ages.
