The Promise of Rain by Scarcity
To survive in the desert, you surrender, humbly taking from the land the little it offers and respecting the resources at hand. Scarcity on their new record The Promise of Rain demands the same resignation and humility in our daily lives, reminding us not to face every challenge alone. Corporations screech into our ears to turn to their products for help rather than turning to community, a request symbolized here by wailing, alien guitar sounds that loom over violent black metal riffing. By disregarding community, we stand upright in the raging stream of nature, exercising pointless strength and risking fruitless danger to reach an unnecessary stature. Once we finally learn to live off the land, to accept and contribute to the virtuous cycle of nourishment that a community provides, we flow downstream into calmer waters, welcomed into a more harmonious sonic environment, revealing that we have never been safer than we are in the arms of each other.
